Some furniture gets all the attention. The sofa, the dining table, the bed. Meanwhile, the humble side table is quietly making the whole room feel much more put together. Somewhere for your coffee, your book, your current favourite candle and, when the occasion calls for it, your martini.

Small tables are also one of the easiest ways to introduce something a little more interesting. A marble side table beside a bouclé chair. Warm oak against a cooler sofa. A sculptural shape in an otherwise simple room. Because they take up less visual space, you can afford to be braver with colour, material and form. Think of them as punctuation rather than the whole sentence.

Our current candidates for drinks duty? The Sur Sage Onyx Side Table for colour, the Sachi Oak White Side Table for something sculptural, or the Hollywood Clear Side Table when you want something a little lighter. Martini not technically required, but encouraged.

Placement matters too. A side table should feel like it’s exactly where you need it. Tucked beside an accent chair, between two seats or pulled up to the end of a sofa. The best rooms have these little moments everywhere, making them feel relaxed and lived in rather than arranged around a few big pieces of furniture.

Proof, if we needed it, that sometimes the smallest pieces have the best jobs. Particularly when that job involves holding a drink.
